The Vocational Training Centre for Economics, Informatics and Technology (BBZW) is the competence centre for commercial and industrial occupations. At our three school locations in Emmen, Sursee and Willisau, more than 3,500 apprentices are trained in over 30 different occupations in basic education.
I start work at 7:30. I must do my duties first. That means refilling the paper in the photocopying room, recycling the old newspapers in the teachers' room, and distributing the new ones, and then cleaning the coffee machine.
Once I have done that I go to my workplace and start my PC. On Monday and Tuesday, I always have telephone and counter service which means that I pick up the phone from 7:30-12:00 13:30-17:00 and help our teachers and students at the counter (secretariat). When my PC is on, I always start Outlook and OneNote first, because in the morning I check my e-mails and in OneNote I have my tasks which I must carry out that week.
I start reading my emails and try to do a few tasks in the morning. At 11:00 am I pick up the mail and distribute it to the teachers who have received it. In our company it can just happen that you might not be able to do the assignments in OneNote because other more important things came up.
I know that I must organize the LAP party on my own. It will be a tough challenge for me, but this event will not happen until next summer.
I still have difficulties at the counter when students come who do not even know what the problem is. Most of the time I receive help from a staff member.
As a competent and reliable education partner, specialists prepare apprentices optimally for their career entry. The aim is not only to promote job-specific and general education, but also to make a positive contribution to the development of the learners' personalities.
In terms of what I expect from the company, I hope that they provide me the opportunity to develop not only my abilities regarding physical work but also the psychological element of work.
So far, I have been able to learn a lot about our students. As many students have a problem with the Sephir, (grading and absence portal). I have learned how to reset passwords, upload pictures etc. In addition, I have also been taught the difference between cantonal and extra-cantonal students.»
